What is a Declarations Page?

Pen and document signatureThe declarations page is the section of your policy that lists your specific information. For example a homeowner’s declaration page lists your name, home address, your policy number, the date your policy becomes effective and expires, your coverage limits and their premiums.

Terms you might see in your declarations page:

  •  Amendments - Sometimes there can be certain circumstances in which your policy needs to have some changes made to it. So instead of completely rewriting the whole policy, the insurance company just includes amendments in the policy. They’re basically changes made to your insurance contract that are meant to change the terms of the policy or the coverage. You can see what amendments apply to your policy on the declarations page.
  • Additional Insured – If someone is listed on your policy that some types of coverage can be applied to, they are considered the additional insured. For example, if you lease a car the leasing company may require you to list them as an additional insured. The owner of the vehicle is still the leasing company, so for that reason they can be held accountable for damages that might happen to the vehicle. Listing the leasing company as the additional insured on your policy will allow your policy to provide some coverage to the leasing company, in the event they do face a suit involving the vehicle.
  • Named Insured – The person or business listed as the insured party.
